Book Fair - Save the Date and Sign up to Volunteer

We’re very excited to announce that the Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon! All Angell students will be able to enjoy book shopping on the week of April 22th - April 26th.

Book Fair Schedule

Monday, April 22th and Tuesday, April 23th: Classes will visit the library to make wish lists.

The following classes will visit the Book Fair to shop during the school day: 

Wednesday, April 24th: Ziolkowski, McKee, Hepner, Ward, Newman, Moynihan

Thursday, April 25th: Sawin, Mato, Williams, DeLong

Friday, April 26th: Starr, Lee, Friday, Stull

Open shopping times for students and parents:

Thursday, April 25th: The Fair will be open from 5:30 - 8:00 pm during International Night.

eWallets

Wish Lists

On Monday, April 22th and Tuesday, April 23th students will visit the Book Fair with their class teachers and make wish lists of books they find interesting. We encourage families to review these wish lists, together with their child, so that you may determine (in case you decide to purchase any items) what items the student may purchase and how much money should be sent. There is no obligation to make a purchase. 

Donations- How families can support their classroom teacher and the Angell Library?

Teacher wish-lists: If you would like to donate a book to your child's class, teacher wish-list slips will be available at the Book Fair. Look for your child's class, choose one or more books to donate from the slips, take the slip to the cash register, and pay for them. We'll take care of the rest!

Angell Library: You can buy books from Ms. Lauer's wish-list slips at the Book Fair.

Volunteering

We are still in need of more volunteers! Thank you so much to all who have already signed up… however, we still need more help to make this event happen. 

Please check out the sign-up genius if you haven’t already and find a spot that can work for you! Grandparents are also welcome to volunteer. All volunteers need to fill out the AAPS Volunteer Form and submit it to the office by Friday, April 19th.

You can pay with credit card, check, eWallets or cash.

International Celebration - we’d like to ask each family who plans to attend to choose a way to help that evening. Can we count on you?

Come and learn about our world’s cultures and celebrate Angell’s diverse community.  Join us for our Angell International Celebration on Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 8pm.  We have 23 countries signed up to participate in our festivities, and the excitement and energy continues to grow!

Join Our Virtual Parade at International Celebration

NEW!  We want you to join our virtual parade at International Celebration!  We invite all families to add a slide of your child/family and a flag of the country or countries with whom your child feels connected.  This virtual “parade of countries” will replace our live parade in order to increase participation and access!   Simply add a slide for your family with one or more photos of your child and their flag.  You are invited to include photos of your family in their home country, a country you’ve travelled to and/or wearing traditional clothing.  Please add your slide HERE by April 22nd.  This beautiful parade, or slideshow, of families will play on repeat in the auditorium and cafeteria during our International Night on April 24th.  (Not sure how to add a slide? First ask your child for help.If they aren’t equipped to provide tech support, Mrs. Fenech is happy to help anytime!)

PTO Executive Board Nominations

Our annual PTO elections will be held at our next general meeting on Thursday, May 23 from 9 to 10 am.

All board positions are open to any parent or guardian of a student who will attend Angell next year even if current officers are willing to return. The board positions are president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.  

The nominating committee has begun the process of identifying candidates. Families are welcome and encouraged to submit any nominations that you would like to be considered.  Please submit nominations by April 23.  To submit a nomination, or if you have any questions, please email Allison Gacek.

Burns Park Run

The 46th Annual Burns Park Run is scheduled for SUNDAY MAY 5, 2024 in Burns Park. It’s a great community event and, by participating, you can help raise funds for the Angell PTO! 

The tree-lined Burns Park Run loop course has been a favorite of beginner and world-class runners alike.  Known for its family-friendly atmosphere, the Burns Park Run 5K and 10K races annually draw between 1,000 to 1,500 runners ages 5 to 90 years, with over 200 elementary school kids running the 5K.  For the youngest of participants, there is a separate 1/2 mile Fun Run around the park.

ANGELL PTO can receive $10 per registrant in grades K through 12 for the 46th Burns Park Run!

Simply register for the race, inform them of the PTO or School during the registration process, and they will send Angell PTO a check.

2024-2025 CLASS PLACEMENT INPUT

If you would like to offer our staff input about 2024-25 class placement, you can complete this optional form by May 1st. 

ARRIVAL TIME

A friendly reminder that outdoor student supervision starts at 8:30AM. Students in lower grades (K-2) should not arrive early unless they are supervised by a parent, caregiver, or older sibling.  We highly recommend that all students come to school between 8:30-8:45AM to ensure proper supervision.  

DANCE WORKSHOP

I was able to bring our Miss. Megan Loren back to Angell for a second dance workshop.  This lasts during lunch on April 26, May 3 and May 10.  We are looking for new participants in grades K-2, as the demand is high in lower elementary.  In grades 3-5, we’d love to have some prior dance students continue with Miss. Megan and we encourage upper elementary students with dance experience to join.  Please sign up your child here. 

STUDENT LEADERSHIP UPDATES

Our Angell Student Council was connected with the Chartwells (food service) nutritionist to offer student input.  If their feedback is an impetus for menu enhancements, I’ll be sure to share!

Our Angell Green Team inspired kids to raise $723 to support endangered animals like the polar bear.  Way to go Angell Eagles!  Activities like these highlight so many of our students’ strengths - including teamwork, sense of meaning, leadership, hope, curiosity, and kindness.  

REPEATS/REMINDERS:

LUNCH VOLUNTEERS ARE THE BEST!!!

Please check out this spreadsheet each week if you can donate an hour or two to lunchtime supervision sometime this week.  

I also invite parents/caregivers to share a special skill with a defined group of kids if you have the interest and capacity.  For example - can you teach finger-knitting? Do you love wiffle ball?  Can you teach kids double-dutch?  Let me know if you have the bandwidth and we’ll work together to make it happen!  (Need supplies?  I can provide!)

SPRING CLEANING! 

- Please be on the lookout for library books in your home, car, etc.  We want to start finding those overdue Angell library books now. 

- The Lost & Found is quite full with coats, gloves, sweatshirts, and tupperware.  Please check for items before Friday, April 19th.  Items not collected by 4:00pm on the 19th will be donated. 

AAPAC ANGELL FAMILY MEET UP, APRIL 30 4:00-5:00PM

Do you have a child with an IEP or 504, or are you in the process of developing a program/plan at an AAPS elementary school? The Ann Arbor Parent Advisory Committee for Special Education (AAPAC) is a group of parents and guardians whose focus is on supporting children in AAPS who have IEPs or 504 Plans. Your AAPAC Angell building representatives, Stephanie Benson and Sarah Zagar, invite you to join us on the playground after school on April 30 to build community, share insights, and connect.
